It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Summer

Summer is coming! Summer is coming! When I was a child growing up in Miami, Florida, we were all about the water – we swam in the pool, in the canals, across the canals to other pools and, of course, you could find us at the beach. Being a child, and not having a means of transportation, that meant that I couldn’t really GET to the beach very often. So, pool and canal it was. Now that I am an adult, summer means outside in a different way – flower-planting, those flying-buzzing bugs that send me running, and sunshine on my shoulders as I walk BY the water. (Did you just think of John Denver, too?)

This year for summer, I think I want to try more tarty-things. I bought these little 2” tartlet pans. They’re SO CUTE. Now to figure out what to do with them… My sister-in-law makes a great big fruit tart with layered fruit and stuff and a graham cracker base, I think. Maybe she will allow me to use and modify her recipe.

Congratulations to all the graduates this year. I am sure that people are celebrating their achievements and looking back at all the good times and looking forward to things to come. I wish you all the best!! And, mamas and dads, it’s going to be OK!

Today is my girl’s birthday!! Ok, she’s 29, so more a woman than a girl. Talk about a success. Goodness. These parents are elated to say that she is in her last semester of her MASTER’S degree in Psychology, is a 1st Lt. in the Tennessee Army National Guard and is up for promotion to a CAPTAIN – thank you very much. And is just blossoming and growing into this person that we all hope our children would become. It is amazing that she is ours. We are so proud of you, Karoline, and happiest birthday to you. (I’ll make you a chocolate cake the next time I come up there.)
